Louis Harrell, Jr. is Chief Executive Officer of The Men of Nehemiah and is known as “The Colonel” by the men of the program. His father, Louis Harrell, Sr. was the founder of the original Men of Nehemiah in New Orleans, LA, who came up with the idea to combine Biblical, spiritual principles with military regimen to help his own son overcome the trials of addiction. A true leader who is sold out for Jesus Christ, his unique vision of “men praising God” is part of what separate the ministry from others. He teaches classes, leads the men in song and worship, and shares his own experience, strength, and hope in battling addiction, homelessness, and incarceration.
Rose Richard-Adams, also known as “Colonel Rose,” is Chief Information Officer of The Men of Nehemiah. She leads the men on an individual basis, assessing their current situation and formulating a clear plan of action for each one to ensure success and maximize their time in the program. Colonel Rose is lovingly considered by the men as the “mother” of the ministry, bringing a warm and nurturing spirit of encouragement and support. Her heart to serve and compassionate attitude are a source of strength to all with whom she comes in contact.
David Woods, otherwise known as “1st Sergeant Woods,” is the staff duty officer at the Men of Nehemiah and head over Operations and Building Maintenance. David makes sure the ministry runs smoothly from a logistical and operational standpoint, overseeing various aspects of the ministry such as kitchen and food procurement, transportation, vendor and office supplies, and building maintenance and daily operations.
Gregory Peterson, known as “Major Peterson,” is the Administrative Officer of Pastoral and Classroom Curriculum at The Men of Nehemiah. With over 40 years of pastoral experience, Pastor Peterson organizes the various teachers and men of God who dedicate their time weekly to pour into the men in the program. He also is pastor at the Bread of Hope service every Sunday morning, leads the men in learning the Word of God during the week, and acts as spiritual father and mentor.
Cheryl Jones, known as”Major Cheryl”, is the Administrative Director for the Men of Nehemiah. She has more than 30-years of administrative experience. Major Cheryl works closely with the Board of Directors and Col. Louis Harrell. She is always seeking opportunities to introduce and expose TMON to the city of Dallas and the surrounding area.
John Stewart, or “Command Sargent Major” or “Sarge,” heads the military component of The Men of Nehemiah and is their Drill Instructor. With over 15 years of military leadership training, including completion of the Non-Commissioned Officer Academies Levels I and II and U.S. Army Ranger School, as well as being a Vietnam veteran and member of USA IMA (Special Operations Command attached to 5th Group Special Forces at Fort Bragg, NC), Sarge is “the real deal.” He leads the men in Drill and Ceremony throughout the week, including a city-wide march shouting cadences praising God’s glory. Sarge is also a leader in the recovery community in Dallas with over 23 years of sobriety, making him, truly, “the perfect man for the job.”
Fran Maloney, or “Major Fran,” is the Chaplain of The Men of Nehemiah and a true example of self-less Christian service. If Rose is the “mother” of the men in the program, Fran is the “grandmother.” Fran is a tireless prayer warrior who meets with every single man in the program daily to ask their prayer needs. She also meets with the men on an individual basis, to talk to them, encourage them, counsel them, and pray for them. The purity of Fran’s heart and the diligence of her service are inspirations to both the men of Nehemiah as well as the staff.
